Wedding Celebrant

You’ve found each other, now find me.

Your day, your way

A ceremony that’s special to you – done your way.

About Dennis

Love comes in many forms, and so do weddings!

As you contemplate this day, and your life ahead, it is important that you select a celebrant who is in tune with you as a couple and can create the kind of ceremony that starts you off right.

To that end, we should get to know a little about each other, and how the process works…

I’m a modern, relaxed male celebrant with warmth, humour and sincerity.

I became a celebrant because I believe I offer something different – crafting individual and beautifully worded ceremonies for my clients that are presented with good taste, good humour and a real sense of occasion.

I have wide life experience, and am an acting graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art with performance and directing skills. I also have a BA in English and have been a professional writer and presenter.

I welcome all couples, and understand and respect the diversity of experience that makes up this lucky country. The marriage equality vote inspired my journey to become a celebrant for everyone.

I’m confident, engaging, and know how to hold an audience.  I have the performance skills to deliver a great ceremony, the life experience to make it warm and sincere, and the sensitivity to make it an experience to remember.

I have a working history in professional theatre performance and high-level corporate presentation.  I understand what it takes to run a smooth event, and I hold myself to an incredibly high standard. Importantly I understand this event is all about you.

I’m available 24/7, across Australia.  The possibilities are endless.

“Dennis was very friendly and professional and made the whole process easy and stress free.

We wanted to send a quick message to say a massive thank you for doing such an incredible job with our wedding ceremony. Dennis is fun, kind and compassionate and led the ceremony seamlessly. We can’t recommend Dennis highly enough! Thank you!

How it works

First we say hello...

Get in contact and we’ll organise a time to meet up – with no obligation – and you can figure out if I’m the right celebrant for your needs.  Send me an email or give me a call – and we’ll arrange a time to get to know each other over a coffee, or something stronger.

(It’s often a good idea to bring along the important paperwork to the initial catch-up so we make sure it’s all correct and usable).

Then we make it official

When you’re ready to take the plunge and want to lock me in for your ceremony – we’ll meet up again to sort the pre-ceremony legal stuff and start planning. When you lock in your wedding date with me, I ask you pay a deposit to secure the date and time.

We need to fill out the ‘Notice of Intended Marriage’ no later than one month prior to your wedding date. You should bring along the documents you require to complete the NOIM – your original Birth Certificates, or Passport, and Drivers licence.  Also – if you were previously divorced or a spouse is deceased, you also require appropriate evidence of either.

If you need more clarity you can ask me, or visit the Attorney Generals website where you can also download a copy of the NOIM for your reference.

And now it's on!

I’ll get to know you both – your story, and what you love about each other.  You get the opportunity to let me know what you want your ideal ceremony to look like.  Together, we’ll start the process of creating something unique and special for your day.

We’ll sit down together and talk about what is important to you, and together create a ceremony that will be perfect for your needs. Your own instincts will be a powerful guide. They rarely let us down, so trust in them.  This is your day, and often long awaited, so it should reflect you both as a couple.

I also appreciate that some couples are looking for something quite different to traditional ceremonies.  It is important to me that each couple’s wedding ceremony is truly the occasion they have imagined.

If you are yet to decide what style you want, I can direct you to a selection of ceremonies and vows to get you thinking.  Then we throw it all up in the air and arrive at something that has particular meaning for you both – and of course a variety of cultural or personal rituals can always be incorporated.

We’ll work back and forth (over email or in person) until everyone is 100% happy with the final product.

Most of all – remember to relax and enjoy the planning of your wedding day. Whether it is going to be formal, casual or even whimsical, this day is one of the most important events of your life.

Take the pressure off and just enjoy those unique moments with your fiancé, friends, parents or whoever else may be planning this with you. If all goes well, you’ll only have to do it once!

Final details

I recommend a rehearsal before the day, to get everyone familiar with the order of events, and iron out any last-minute wrinkles.

Then you have an awesome wedding day, a beautiful ceremony, and marry the love of your life.

After the ceremony, we sit down to complete a few more signatures, organise your certificates and then I submit it to the Registry and you’re legal!

“Dennis was an integral part of our wedding from the outset.

We really felt like we could phone him with our concerns about anything leading up to the big day. After spending time with us, he was able to write a wonderful, personalised ceremony which our guests relayed was unlike any wedding they could recall attending. We felt very aligned in our values with Dennis, he is calm and non-judgemental but also brought a sense of fun to what can be a stressful exercise. He was also very flexible and did his best to work around our schedules. We cannot recommend Dennis more to couples looking for the perfect marriage celebrant.”

Ken & Rachel

“We chose Dennis as our celebrant for our wedding due to his engaging personality and professionalism.

We felt that he could deliver a ceremony that reflected us and contained the right mix of humour, formality and personalisation, which is exactly what we got. Dennis took the time to get to know us and our story and incorporate all of these things into a ceremony that was truly ours.
It was delivered with confidence and just the right tone so that guests felt engaged and entertained at the same time!! We would highly recommend Dennis for your wedding
as well.

Questions?

Do you support Marriage Equality?

I actively support Marriage Equality. There is no greater joy than to witness the celebration of love between any couple in the company of chosen family and friends. As a member of the LGBQTI community I have a unique understanding of the journey that has led to this freedom, and I am so happy that all people are now able to experience this life affirming moment.

Covid concerns?

It’s been a challenging few years and of course I will be flexible and make every effort to accommodate any changes the pandemic may bring us. I’m triple vaccinated and encourage my clients to be the same.

Can you act as MC?

Yes, I’m available to stay for the reception and hold the order of events together! Sometimes it’s best to let your friends and family relax and enjoy themselves as guests and leave it to a professional to keep the day running smoothly with no unexpected surprises! We can discuss fees depending on the event.

Do you do theme weddings?

Who doesn’t like a good costume party? It’s your day – make it unique and special to you both.

What other services do you offer?

Well I have spent much of my life as a professional singer so can manage a very respectable tune for you if there’s a song you really want sung live. (And I also have friends with gorgeous voices for duets too.)
All fees can be discussed and agreed in the planning stage.

Can you perform a 'registry-style' ceremony?

Not up for a fancy ceremony? Not a problem.
You will still need to give the required 1 months notice, share a simple brief ceremony with 2 witnesses present, and sign the the paperwork with me. Simple but still special. Please contact me for fees for this service, competitive with the Registry office.
